Dessert Hummus 101

Dessert Hummus 101

My new obsession is dessert hummus. If this idea is new to you, you may be thinking I'm a bit crazy, but in all seriousness, this stuff is legit. It's healthy, delicious, and NO ONE needs to know that beans are the main ingredient! Under the disguise of some sweet names, these will be a party favorite. Brownie Batter, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, and Snicker Doodle Dip are some of my favorites. Your kids will love them, and so will your friends! These treats contain only natural sugar from dates and maple syrup and are chock full of omega 3s, healthy fats, fiber, and vitamins, such as potassium, magnesium, calcium, and phosphorus! As you all know I like to keep it simple, so I have created a base recipe from which you can create many variations. There is NO need to re-invent the wheel with each and every recipe. You can also freeze these for future use, so if you like to plan, this might be just the recipe you need to stay ahead of the game. I hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

Dessert Hummus Base

  • 2 -15oz cans Chickpeas (garbanzo beans)

  • 3/4 cup Almond or Cashew Butter

  • 8 Medjool Dates (soaked in hot water for 10-15 minutes)

  • 4 tablespoons Water reserved from the dates

  • 2-3 tablespoons Maple syrup

  • 2 tablespoons Chia Seeds

  • 1 tablespoon Vanilla Extract

  • 1/2 teaspoon Himalayan Pink or Sea Salt

Soak the dates in very hot water for 10 minutes. Drain the chickpeas and give them a quick rinse and place them in a food processor or high quality blender (like a Vitamix). Add the rest of the ingredients and blend them until the base is smooth.

Now its time for the fun!

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough

Mix the Base with Chocolate Chips. Wa La!

Brownie Batter

Mix the base with Raw Cocoa and some extra maple syrup to taste.

Snickerdoodle

Mix the base with cinnamon and a pinch of nutmeg.

Ginger Snap

Take the Snickerdoodle recipe and add a bit of ginger!

Cake Batter

Mix the base with some Dye free sprinkles and extra vanilla extract!

See how easy this is!?

You can serve this treat with graham crackers, pita chips, pretzels, tortilla chips (for a salty twist- trust me, its so good), and strawberries. You can also eat it straight with a spoon!

The possibilities are endless! Have fun and do a lot of taste testing. At your next event or gathering you'll have to see what people say BEFORE you tell them they are eating chickpeas!! Let me know in the comments! Also, feel free to share any variations you invent! Enjoy!
